No matter how well dressed you are above and below the waist, if you don’t have good shoes or even the wrong type of shoes, it is always going to have a major impact on how good you look.
The wrong choice of shoes or shoes that have seen better days will always draw the eye and will be one of the first things people notice about you. Fortunately this doesn’t mean that as a man you will end up having to buy different shoes for every event you attend but you should invest in 2 or 3 pairs of shoes of real quality.
Many people make the mistake of thinking they can buy a load of cheap pairs of shoers from the high street to maintain a smart appearance but this is often a false economy if those shoes aren’t made of durable materials.
The important things to remember about shoes are:
- They should be made of leather.
- Opt for lace up shoes rather than boots or slip ons. The latter are better suited for casual wear.
- Shoes should be comfortable when you try them on. IF they’re not comfortable from the start they probably won’t be in the future either.
- Shoes don’t look after themselves. To retain their shape and appearance, invest in a shoe tree and use polish and wax to protect them from wear and tear.
