There is no doubt that anyone who puts on a traditional tuxedo will look smart the downside is having to blend in with everyone else at a black tie event. Fortunately it doesn’t have to be that way if you want to stand out from the crowd because there are some alternatives to colours and materials that are equally acceptable.
So here are some modern twists to the traditional tuxedo to consider before your next big formal event.
The velvet dinner jacket
If you want to be subtle and stand out just a little bit more than everyone else, then a velvet dinner jacket is the coolest choice at the moment offering a completely different type of texture to the standard dinner jacket.
If you are looking for an alternative to the usual cummerbund then a waistcoat is an excellent alternative when it comes to framing your dress shirt.
Deviate a little from the standard black
While you won’t have much room to experiment with colour, you could go for midnight blue rather than black. It’s even ok to team a midnight blue velvet jacket with black trousers. One tip is not to go too overboard with colour experimentation at a black tie event to maintain formality.
